Week 2 Hockenheim Race Results

Our final European race at Hockenheim raceway started with Tex on pole with Zoomy second and HiWind third. Zoomy spun his tires at the start which let HiWind take 2nd place.

Everyone was kind of tentative with the cold tires and got thru lap 1 with no problems. Lap 2 saw Zoomy putting immense pressure on HiWind, trying to get him to make a mistake but instead ending up making a mistake of his own, going off the track at turn 8.

For the rest of the race everyone seemed to just kinda fall into place and not make too many mistakes. Tex locked up his brakes pretty good on lap 4 allowing HiWind to get close but he wasn't able to get close enough to get by. The race ended with Tex in the lead followed by HiWind and then Zoomy.

Hockenheim Race Results

After 10 races, the seasons points standings are:
Tex - 88
HiWind - 52
Zoomy - 50

That completes the second leg of our Championship. We take up the fight next on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Round 3 of our season.

Week 2 Oschersleben Race Results

Oschersleben was anything but uneventful. Tex was on pole with Zoomy second and HiWind third. Tex had a really slow start allowing both Zoomy and HiWind past. Quickly getting up to speed, Tex was right on HiWind's tail putting on the pressure. HiWind finally succumbed at turn 9 when he went too close to the curb causing him to get off course and slow down. This allowed Tex to get past him on the outside.

Zoomy was soon having problems of his own. Pushing hard, he locked up his brakes going into the last corner and ended up going off of the track into the gravel trap. Fortunately he was able to keep his car moving and got back out onto the track.

No one was immune from troubles today, it seems, as Tex missed a downshift going into turn 3 on lap 2 and spun out to the inside. Both HiWind and Zoomy got by easily.

Zoomy was right on the leader's tail, beatin' and bangin' on his bumper trying to get him to make a mistake but HiWind held him off until the last corner where Zoomy, once again, drove straight off with his brake lock up problems.

Lap 3 saw HiWind in the lead with Tex a couple of seconds behind. HiWind could see that Tex was gaining on him and was pushing hard. A bit too hard as it turns out as he locked up his brakes going into the turn 10/11 chicane, sliding off the track, allowing Tex to re-take the lead. That also allowed Zoomy to catch up which proved costly as Zoomy ended up knocking HiWind off of the track at the last corner.

Lap 4 and 5 saw Tex in the lead with Zoomy in hot pursuit but unable to make up any ground with the race finishing in that order. Tex in 1st, Zoomy 2nd and HiWind 3rd.

Week 2 Assen Results

Assen was pretty uneventful. Tex qualified on pole with Zoomy next then HiWind. HiWind got an awesome jump on the rest of the field but must've lost his turn-in point as he went blasting straight through into the runoff area. He was able to get turned around and rejoin the race but well back of the lead.

After all that drama, Tex ended up in first place with Zoomy a close second. No one had any major moments throughout the race and that's the way the race ended.

Week 2 Zandvoort Race Results

Race 2 started out a nice sunny day for qualifying. Tex had the pole until the very last lap of qualifying when Zoomy laid down the fastest lap of the session barely beating Tex by 13 thousandths of a second; 1:47.278 to 1:47.291. HiWind unfortunately never found the groove and was third on the grid.

The start of the race saw both Tex and HiWind pass Zoomy who had a slow start. Zoomy put on a charge and got past HiWind at the turn 4 hairpin with an awesome outside-in maneuver on cold tires. His euphoria didn't last long though as he dropped two tires at the exit of turn 6. This dragged him off course allowing HiWind past.

Tex was pulling ahead about a second and a half a lap while Zoomy was pushing hard to catch up to HiWind. He got close but threw it away under braking at the turn 8 hairpin. Tex didn't have much better luck himself. Once again he spun out at the start of lap 4 and could only watch as HiWind went blasting by taking the lead.

Lap 5 saw HiWind and Tex battling for the lead, neither wanting to give too much room for the other driver. Tex was finally able to take the lead with an outside pass out braking HiWind into turn 7. The race would finish in that order; Tex, HiWind and Zoomy. A repeat from race 1.

Week 2 Silverstone Race Results

Week 2 of our schedule saw us take our first foray into the European tracks. Tex took advantage of the summer break between week 1 and 2 to get some private testing in prior to the races. It worked to his advantage as Slam Racing swept the European round!

Race one was at Silverstone International raceway using the National circuit. Tex had pole and had worked thru his problems with the race starts so everyone got off to a good start. HiWind got a bit of a jump on Zoomy but at the start it was Tex, Zoomy and HiWind going into turn 1.

Turn 4 saw Tex get loose on the exit which caused Zoomy to run into the back of Tex's Lotus. While Zoomy was slowed up, HiWind snuck past into second place. Still on lap 1, Tex couldn't keep from swinging out wide in turn 8 which allowed HiWind to pass for the lead.

It didn't take Tex long to retake the lead though as he got by HiWind on the left-hander leading into the stadium section. Zoomy was right there trying to take advantage but couldn't get by HiWind who's car was suddenly very, very wide!

Lap 2 was a massive battle between HiWind and Zoomy with each taking turns passing one another. Zoomy wasn't afraid to use the bumper to get by either! Good thing they have some history together so they won't hold a grudge later. ;) As they were battling thru lap 3, Zoomy got onto the gas a bit early in turn 8 and spun out, effectively taking himself out of the race.

Lap 4 saw Tex with a comfortable lead over HiWind but he threw it away when he spin out in turn 4. HiWind was able to get by and retake the lead. Tex rejoined the circuit ahead of Zoomy and set out to get after the leader. Tex had the faster car but would he be able to catch the leader before the end of the race? HiWind's tires were going off and he was locking up his brakes badly trying to keep Tex behind him. Turn 8 saw HiWind lock his brakes up once again trying to take the inside line away. That allowed Tex to cut inside and take the position away right before the stadium section and the end of the race.

Great back and forth battles all throughout the race and one for the record books. Finishing order was Tex, HiWind and Zoomy.

Week 1 Race Results

We decided to start our season without Crazy and just keep track of the races that he joins us on. We had a great night of racing with everyone scoring at least one win.

HiWind and Tex started the night out right with a finish line difference of only 0.009 seconds on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

awesome video footage

Tex started the night out with his first of three consecutive poles. Followed closely by Zoomy, then HiWind. The track was having problems with it's timing and scoring so when the starter yelled "Go!" to start the race, Tex got a jump on the other two competitors. Unfortunately he threw it all away by sliding on his cold tires into turn one, easily allowing 2nd and 3rd place drivers to pass by.

The end of lap 2 saw Zoomy having problems negotiating the final chicane, ending up head first into champions wall. HiWind got by easily enough but Zoomy collected Tex when he was getting turned around to continue. Fortunately it didn't affect Tex much because he did a 360 and carried on with chasing the leader.

HiWind was in the lead chased closely by Tex who was putting the pressure on to make him make a mistake but Tex makes a mistake of his own. The start of lap 4 sees Tex lock up his brakes in turn 2. HiWind returns the favour by sliding off turn 3 into the runoff area allowing Tex to catch up and pass him by.

It was a good race to the end with HiWind making up distance under braking but not having enough to get by. He was close leading up to the last chicane and was able to get a run at Tex leading to the start finish line.

Feeling perhaps that he didn't have enough to get past the leader, HiWind decides to take him out instead! He turns sharply into the leaders rear quarter panel and turns him towards the inside wall. Tex bounces a couple of times off of the wall and is able to get back on the track and finish ahead of HiWind by a mere nine thousandths of a second! Just another day at the races!

Montreal race results

Race two saw us at Mosport International Raceway. Tex had pole but screwed up the start which Zoomy and HiWind took advantage of. Zoomy took the point and never looked back to record his first win of the season. Tex snuck by HiWind on lap 4 to finish the race in second.

Mosport race results

The Toronto Molson Indy is race 3 in our schedule and the last of the Canadian races for the first part of our season. Tex secured pole position for the race but is still having problems with the race starts. Both HiWind and Zoomy get past Tex on the start. Zoomy got by HiWind in turn 3 when HiWind went in too deep on cold tires.

Both HiWind and Tex took turns spinning out while Zoomy never looked back. Tex was able to get by HiWind on lap 3 when he spun and that's the way the race finished.

Watkins Glen International Raceway was next on our schedule. Zoomy finally broke Tex's 3 race pole position sweep with pole of his own. Tex still had problems putting the power down on the start of the race. HiWind got an awesome jump at the start and was moving in between Tex and Zoomy when Tex's car veered over and hit HiWind's car at the start forcing HiWind into Zoomy. Zoomy wrecked, Tex slowed down and HiWind took the lead!

After pressuring HiWind for 3 laps, Tex finally got by going into the bus stop chicane. All of the battling between 1st and 2nd allowed Zoomy to catch back up and put the pressure on HiWind but to no avail. HiWind held him off to take second place.

Watkins Glen race results

Finally we travel to Lime Rock Park. One of the shortest tracks on our schedule but fun nonetheless. Zoomy took pole on his last qualification lap with HiWind second and Tex third. Everybody got a good start with HiWind getting the jump off the start. It was enough to allow him to get past Zoomy in turn 1 and take the lead. A little bobble by Zoomy off of turn 4 lets Tex get a run past him along the straight leading up to the hill turn.

Zoomy spins at the entrance to turn one effectively taking himself out of the race. That leaves HiWind in the lead with Tex close behind. And that's it, that's the way the race finishes. HIWind gets his first win of the season with Tex in second and Zoomy third.

Lime Rock Park race results

At the end of 5 races the season standings are:
1) Tex 38 points
2) Zoomy 29 points
3) HiWind 28 points
